Since her 2009 appointment by Archbishop Daniel Buechlein, OSB, Annette “Mickey” Lentz has served as the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
For the preceding 46 years, Mickey worked in variety of roles in education within the Archdiocese. She was a teacher and principal before accepting the position as Associate Director for the Office of Catholic Education; she became Executive Director of that office in July 1998. Mickey’s professional educational endeavors began during her student years at Marian College (now Marian University). At the conclusion of her second year of study she accepted a position teaching 4th and 5th grades. She completed her bachelor’s degree work at St. Mary of the Woods College and earned her master’s degree at Butler University. Mickey has far-reaching national involvement in Catholic educational organizations. She has served on the CACE (Chief Administrators of Catholic Education) Advisory Council of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA); she has been a national committee member of Selected Programs in Improving Catholic Education (SPICE) and Vice-President of the INPEA (Indiana Non-Public Education Association). She has also served as a member of the advisory board of the Indiana Catholic Principals’ Institute at Marian College and as a Board Member for Gibault, Inc. For years, Mickey planned and organized the program of Catholic Education conferences for all Indiana nonpublic schools, known as INPEC. She also worked closely with the Ohio Catholic Education Association, as well as planning the annual CACE meeting. She is a regular presenter at workshops focused on leadership, personnel team building and spiritual formation, curriculum planning, among other topics. In 1985-86, during her tenure as principal, St. Mark School in Indianapolis was named a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, the first for the archdiocese. The National Catholic Education Association named her the 1992 Distinguished Diocesan Leader. Project EXCEED, a cadre of educational initiatives for the Archdiocese as a result of a Lilly grant has been her latest achievement. In March 2008 at the NCEA Convention, Mickey was presented with the F. Sadlier Dinger Award in recognition of distinguished leadership and outstanding achievements in service to Catholic Education. |
